Why Do YOU Love the Soaps?~~~

I love my soaps because they helped me through some of the worst times in my life. Domestic Violence, Cancer, Homelessness, and watching ar my Gram's house when I was like 5 and was supossed to be taking a nap. My Gram is not in the best health now and many days doesn't know me (I'm crying as I type this) but she was like a mother to me when my mom didn't want to do anything but scream at me and hit me. Taking these shows is like taking my Gram away before she is gone!!! handshake.gif

OLTL has always been there for me and I could always count on it. Even when I couldn't count on anything else, it was the one thing I could count on since 1993. It tore me up when the announcement of OLTL's impending cancellation was announced. What do I count on now?

I've watched OLTL since day one. As a little girl staying home school they became like extended family.

When I went the divorce from hell, OLTL and AMC were my few hours of sanity in the day.  They were truly there for me as well.

I will never give up trying to save them!

I love Soaps because it has gotten me through the roughest times of my life. When NBC yanked "Another World" it truly devistated me for sometime. I just don't understand why ABC is doing this! they take away both soaps saying money lost but they will keep General Hospital??!! Watchout GH, DAYS of our Lives, Young and Restless. It will be a matter of time and they will get the ax too!

I hear ya ... with Regis and Oprah leaving, looks to me like they may well have just committed financial suicide. I read that Frons doesn't expect to see Chew and The Revolution fail. So ... why cancel two shows that millions love? Pretty bizarre business decision if you as me!

Soaps provide romance and a sense of belonging to so many people who have no other outlet for those emotions.  Most of us are able to get out.  We have jobs and families and outside activities, and if we're able to catch our soaps a few times a week we're doing well.  But there are hundreds of thousands of viewers who are shut-ins, who are elderly, who are ill and debilitated, and who LIVE for the adventures and romance in the lives of these characters.  For them, this cancellation will be like the death of their families.  It will mean no more family Thanksgivings, or Christmases, or Fourth of Julys.

This is horrible judgement on the part of ABC, motivated strictly by greed (I love the way they call it "business") and in my opinion will be as bad a business decision as the NBC debacle with Jay Leno last year.  It will put hundreds of people out of work and will leave hundreds of thousands of viewers bereft.  I hope with all my heart that this campaign works.

I enjoy the daytime stories because they not only educate but entertain me as well.I believe people learn more if they are entertained then strictly preached to. I do not have a favorite show because since the late 70s I've been doing my best to watch them all.
